3 Ways to Breathe New Life into Old Artwork

As an artist, I’m constantly trying to come up with new ideas, sketches and designs. This can be very overwhelming and time consuming to always start from scratch. For some reason, I always used to think that if you repurposed an existing artwork it was cheating. HOWEVER, I have changed my mind about all that. It is time to work smarter, not harder. And it’s more than okay to repurpose your existing artwork in new and unique ways. Check out the variations I created of this Toronto themed design, resulting in stickers, postcards and prints.

  1. STICKERS

Everyone loves a good sticker, am I right? I can’t believe that this was my first custom sticker creation and I AM IN LOVE. I just had to go with the hologram style which essentially produces a three-dimensional effect with rainbow colours - it’s pure magic. I printed these with Sticker Canada and was super happy with the result. You can now purchase these on my Etsy shop here.

Stickers are perfect for adding some colour and art to your everyday life. Place it on your notebook, laptop, scrapbook, luggage, water bottle etc.

2. POSTCARDS

I’m a big fan of snail mail aka sending people letters, cards and notes the traditional way - through our postal service. In this digital age we live in, a tactile piece of art is so much nicer in my humble opinion. And so at the beginning of last year, I decided to send out a thank you/hello postcard to clients and friends to brighten up the dreary winter days in Toronto. I decided to use an existing design in order to save time and it was a total relief that I didn’t have to create something completely new. Voila! I decided to winterize the Toronto scene and amp it up with a magical and whimsical feel.

3. ART PRINTS

This seemed like the obvious one, however it also took me a while to create my own art prints. If you’re not a digital artist, it takes a lot of time and effort to turn your artwork into digital files that can be printed. Your files need to be vectorized, in order to be scaled up exponentially to ensure the highest quality. You wouldn’t want to print anything and have the artwork come out with blurry edges. Trust me that’s the worst. I’m still working on variations here, testing different formats, sizing, colours and papers so nothing is currently available to order. Stay tuned my friends!

ORIGINAL/PAST USES OF THE ARTWORK

This stained glass CN Tower design was first created to be a painted mural, back in 2020. This was at the very beginning of my mural career and I wanted to create something Toronto themed for the utility boxes downtown. Turns out everyone loved it and excitingly, it’s slowly expanded into various scenes and has been used on different mediums.
