OTB PROGRAM: street art toronto | JULY 2019 | ~8’ x 7’ | exterior Acrylic Paint

Sometimes as I walk down the small side streets of Toronto, I get transported back to a simpler time with the beautiful 19th century historical homes. Life slows down a bit and I'm able to enjoy the unique sight of the different neighbourhoods with stained glass windows, coloured bricks, and decorative elements. In the hopes of bringing the character and personality of these side streets to the busy main streets, this design was born. At a time where condos are going up left, right, and centre, I thought it was an appropriate art piece. The intention is to juxtapose the city's modern buildings, condo developments etc with these timeless and unique historical homes, adding a little more charm to the urban sprawl.

This mural was part of the Outside The Box 2019 program affiliated with the city of Toronto and organized through Street Art Toronto where artists apply with their design to paint a utility box in the city. My design was based on four real houses in Toronto, one from Cabbagetown, Parkdale, Chinatown and Corktown. Check out Street Art Toronto for all the amazing public art initiatives they are doing in our city to make Toronto a better place one neighbourhood and one mural at a time.

*This mural can be found at the South East corner of Weston Road and Fern Avenue, just a few streets north of Lawrence Avenue.
